📍 Arsi, Oromia
A chain of highland peaks running from the Arsi massifs down to the Rift Valley escarpment.
The mountain chain with the peaks of Kaka, Chilalo, Arbagugu and Aluto extends from the heights of the Arsi massifs in the south-east to the escarpment edge of the Rift Valley depression in the north-west.
These peaks, with their natural highland vegetation, have been made into a national park to protect the wildlife within. They are fantastic areas to trek in the wilderness.
Park entry and trekking permits are arranged for you, and a certified mountain trekking guide leads the route with an armed park scout for trail security.
The trekking route follows the scenic viewpoints of Mount Chilalo and Mount Kaka, with an educational walk through the highland flora and the endemic birds and mammals sheltering in it, and panoramic stops along the escarpment edge above the Rift Valley.
Not included: trekking poles and personal hiking gear, porter services for heavy luggage, and meals and refreshments.
Travel with community-owned guides who know every trail and story. Your visit directly supports conservation and local livelihoods across the region — part of what makes Oromia’s abundance possible.
